Dementia Carers Count

The tenant’s reward is the Karibu Award — and any part of it they don’t earn goes to Dementia Carers Count — never back to the landlord.

Dementia Carers Count is a small national charity supporting those who care for a loved one with dementia. They believe that no dementia carer should feel overwhelmed or alone. They run a free and confidential Carer Support Line, with calls answered by a team of specialists. Carers can share whatever they are struggling with and Dementia Carers Count's advisors will help them to access the right support. This might include free counselling sessions, support navigating complex systems or practical help with admin. They also run virtual and in-person peer support groups, helping dementia carers to feel less isolated. Their latest research shows that 4 in 5 dementia carers are reaching crisis point and 3 in 4 often feel they simply cannot continue. Dementia carers may be navigating sleepless nights, extreme anxiety, wandering and complex personal care, while managing their own health, the needs of other family members, and finances. Many are doing this without any support. Dementia Carers Count exists to improve dementia carer mental health and resilience, prevent carer breakdown, and equip carers with the tools they need. One carer told them: "It felt so reassuring and an absolute blessing to speak, for the first time ever, to someone who actually knows dementia and has time to listen." All donations go towards running their Carer Support Services.
